About Grønn Festival
Grønn Festival is an environmental guideline for festivals that aims to help the festivals to take climate action. On this website you will find instructions and resources to do so. When all tasks defined in the instructions are completed you may use the Grøn Festival logo as a stamp of approval.
Why should we become a Grøn Festival?
We are blessed with an abundance of festivals in Norway. A typical Norwegian festival contains a large consumption of disposable items and in general, the garbage disposal is poor. The festival culture includes disposable tents, sleeping bags and chairs, as well as trash left on the ground. However, the massive challenge of changing the audience behavior patterns, also creates a great starting point for cutting climate emissions.
Man-made climate emissions leads to an increase in CO2 in the atmosphere, which amplifies the greenhouse effect, which again leads to climate change. To stop this, we need to limit the average increase in temperature from pre-industrial times (1850s) to 1,5 degrees celsius. We have already increased the temperature by 1 degree. In order to meet the 1,5 degree target, everyone needs to cut their carbon emissions by at least 50% by 2030 (https://www.un.org/en/).
Grøn Festival aims to help festivals cut their CO2 emissions.
But there's already several environmental certifications?
A Greener Festival, Green Events by Eco-Lighthouse (Miljøfyrtårn) and Miljøgodkjent arrangement by FEE are all great environmental certifications. Some even provide you with your own climate accounting, which will help you measure your emissions and set new goals to further reduce your imprint.
Grøn Festival meets the needs of the small organizations who do not have the resources for the extensive work on reporting and follow-up. Additionally, Grøn Festival provides resources, tips and advice, especially for your own area - which will make it easier for you to take action.
Furthermore: Grøn Festival is free and all resources are accessible online - everyone can benefit from it, regardless of whether or not you are qualified to join Grøn Festival.
We hope that Grøn Festival can help all festivals to take climate action now, which will make it easier for them to later on become certified through Eco-Lighthouse and A Greener Festival.
